18/08/09: Presidential Cliff-Hanger

Had Bryan Stone's request for an LBW been granted, it would have been the 2nd tie in OLCC history. As it was, the last ball of the day trickled past where 1st slip might have been, and the last pair scrambled through for the leg-bye to win the game.
After some fine strokeplay early on from Neale Jackson, the OLCC run chase was based on a 79 run partnership for the 3rd wicket between Dayalan Doraisamy and Paul Newell Price (41). Dayalan hit 8 4s in his stylish 62. With Paul's dismissal the game was at a turning point: 165-5, and when John Acland-Hood yorked Geoff Samuels with the very next ball, things were tilting the President's way, but Andrew Moss (34), with some valuable help from the tail, regrouped, and then pushed on to all but finish things off. It was left to the last pair to cobble together the final few runs to get past the President's total.
Earlier in the day, Bryan Stone bashed a quick 27 before sky-ing one from his Durham City CC colleague. Nick Hayles dived to take the catch which meant that Paul's trip home with Bryan might be bearable. Tom Carter hit 52 and some late blows from John Acland-Hood (46*) and David Bibby (22*) took the President's XI to 247-7, at which point The President made a generous declaration at 3:30pm.     Scorecard & Pictures

10/08/09: OLCC drew with Adlestrop yesterday

A very pleasant afternoon in The Cotswolds was augmented by a cricket match. Graham reminded us all about the poem and if we weren't sure of the words, printed copies were available. Sun-bathing and lolling around was occasionally interrupted by having to bat, and over the course of 2 or 3 hours we scored 199 runs at a decent rate, based mainly on 80 runs from John Acland-Hood - including a successful reverse-sweep - and 41 from Edward Carter.
Making his debut, Rahul De Sousa bowled a fine opening spell, bowling one of the openers with one that nipped back. Highlight of the innings was an acrobatic diving catch from Andrew Moss. The OL total proved too challenging, but Adlestrop comfortably reached stumps only 5 wickets down.     Scorecard & Pictures.

03/08/09: OLCC beat Kingsclere at Fieldgate yesterday
78 not out from Tom Carter accelerated OLCC to a decent score after a slow start on a slow wicket. OLCC were 64 for 4, and had used half their 40 overs when Tom came to the crease. With Ed Carter he put on 84 runs, OLCC eventually making 203. Tom hit 5 6s and 6 4s.
Good opening bowling from guest Sunny Dehal, and Geoff Samuels stifled the Kingsclere reply, and when Nigel Gundry was trapped LBW by Richard Newell Price, making the score 55 for 3, it looked like the game might be up, and so it proved. The innings continued with some promising batting from the Kingsclere youngsters, but they were never up with the rate. Guest David Moore took 2 in 2 balls, but the hat-trick ball was hit just short of mid-wicket. Graham Carter took 2 more wickets, and Kingsclere finished on 161 for 8.     Scorecard.

27/07/09: Holyport CC beat OLCC yesterday
Seb Powers' brisk and well driven 1st century for the club wasn't enough to keep Holyport at bay . 204-5 from 42.3 overs looked like a decent enough score, but the Holyport openers put things in perspective with a 125 run stand from only 16 overs. Aided by some occasionally wayward OL bowling, they whacked it all over the place. Graham Carter broke the stand with the help of good catch from the Seb Powers on the long-on boundary. After both openers were dismissed in quick succession the game became normal again and but for a couple of chances that got away there might have been a tight finish. In the end though, Holyport won with 2 overs and 4 wickets to spare. Scorecard.

25/07/09: OLCC lost to Friend's XI by 7 wickets yesterday. OLCC started briskly then went from 38 for 1 to 56 for 7 in 6 overs. We limped on to complete the 20 overs, but 103 was never really enough even on this damp and lively wicket. 120 would have been competitive. In the field we stuck to our task gamely, but Friend's XI pushed the throttle slightly towards the end and won comfortably. Scorecard.

14/07/09: OLCC beat Jordans Taverners last Sunday by 5 wickets. Jordans Taverners 141 all out (Phil Dunster 4 for 21), OLCC 142 for 4 (10 men: Tom Carter 54, Chris Straw 28). Scorecard.

13/07/09: Cricket Week: The prologue 20/20 against Catcliffe Way was reduced to 17 overs per side and then 15 overs per side. OLCC batted first and scored 140-8, and then the rain finally put paid to things.
On a slow bouncy pitch we lost to The Cricket Society, drew with Kingsclere with 2 runs needed and 1 wicket left, and lost to a good Incogniti side.

06/07/09: Celeriacs were twice as good as The OLCC yesterday, scoring 266-7 to OLCC's 133 all out. John Acland-Hood scored 88 for The Celeriacs. He opened with James Allaway, and James scored his 50 before becoming the 1st wicket to fall. The OLCC's reply was a struggle, leavened slightly by some handsome blows from Neale Jackson in his 33 not out. Scorecard.

22/06/09: Old Leightonians Challenge Trophy 2009:

The Parktimers XI retained the Trophy, winning both their games. OLCC beat the School and lost to Parktimers. Click here for scorecards & pictures

19/06/09: OLCC beat Leighton Park School by 95 runs on Friday

15/06/09: OLCC lost to Waltham St. Lawrence yesterday. Scorecard.

12/06/09: Cricket Week Teams
The teams have been announced for the Cricket Week games in July against The Cricket Society, Kingsclere and Incogniti.

08/06/09: A challenging run chase on a damp pitch at Moreton yesterday ended with a win for the OLCC.
After allowing Moreton perhaps 20 runs too many, Dayalan got us off to a flyer, clinically despatching the short ball and hitting the normally reliable Will Thomas back over his head for 4. Tom Carter then settled in against some probing bowling from the Moreton off-spinner McDonald, and once Tom was joined by Geoff Samuels we started to move towards the required run rate. We had a boost when Tom hit 2 overs of leg-spin into the adjacent field, and when Geoff hit the miserly McDonald over his head for 4, it looked like we would do it. Ed Carter finished the job with 4 balls to spare.
Scorecard

03/06/09: Ed Carter's great form with the bat continues, but we didn't get enough runs to prevent a Roehampton win last Sunday.

26/05/09: In a topsy-turvy low scoring thriller on Sunday,OLCC lost to Middleton Stoney by 1 wicket
scorecard & pictures

18/05/09: OLCC beat The Governor's XI by 10 wickets yesterday. Highlights included 3 wickets in 4 balls for Nick Masters-Waage on his debut, and an unbroken opening stand of 137 by Tom Carter and Tom Gillmor on a tricky drying wicket.
Governor's XI 135-10 (Masters-Waage 3 for 11 ), OLCC 137-0 (T.Carter 65*, T.Gillmor 44*)

06/05/09: The OLCC began its 33rd season with two close contests on a highly successful East Midlands tour, losing by six runs at Woodhouse Eaves before winning by four wickets at Elvaston.

08/03/09: New recruits are always welcome in the OLCC and we would particularly like recent leavers to join our ranks. Please click here for more details.
