A shamelessly crowing match report from David Bibby...

Posted 19/06/06: Victory against the MCC? It was time to bring the schoolboys back down to earth. The annual fixture against the school saw 3 debuts (Dave Burton, Matt Dennis and Will Rowntree), 3 first appearances of the season (Ross Stewart, Tom Aylward and Ed Sugden), 4 regulars (Bibster, Gillmor, Ackers and Denny) plus Fluffy, and one resounding thumping.

Obviously bouyed by successes earlier in the week, LPS skip Denslow opted to break from tradition upon winning the toss and decided to have a bat. A move he would later regret, as both himself and his fellow Brewers Cup selectee Alex Wright were back in the pavilion with the score not yet on 20, thanks to useful opening spells from Ross and Dave Burton - the latter taking 3-23 from 8 and following it up with 3 catches - not a bad effort really.

The new boy influence continued as Matt Dennis snaffled a couple of catches behind the stumps, Will Rowntree bowling a very tidy 9 overs and Suggs chipping in with a few overs of excitement and a wicket to boot. All that was left was for Bibster (2-23) and Hoody (2-9) to mop up the tail. LPS all out for 159, the highlight being a well-deserved 71 from Hunter, whom it turned out was also their opening bowler.

Having bowled them out a little too early for Pete Bouteille's liking, it was requested that we have 20 minutes bashing before tea. So after drawing lots for batting positions, Glimmer and Tom Aylward went out to see us through until the grub. 4 overs and 18 runs later all looked good.

It then looked even better as the two resumed their partnerships after tea, matching each other almost blow for blow and, despite their best efforts to be caught and run out, passing their 50's and knocking off the runs required inside 26 overs. Gillmor 75*, Aylward 74*.

So what does all ths mean? Another W in the column for the season, still unbeaten, another W in Bibster's captaincy column, a lesson in cricket for the schoolboys leaving Denny reaching for the archives to try and find out if we have ever beaten the school by 10 wickets before, and several promising debuts. Marvellous effort that.
