OLCC v. Waltham St.Lawrence

Posted 19/06/06: Rumours of Bird Flu in the Walthams were given credence as the OLCC oppo seemed to drop like flies-with-bird-flu over the weekend. On Saturday, they were all fine for Sunday, by Sunday they had lost 3 of their number and by the noon of game day only 6 were able to make it. As OLs seem to have nothing better to do, we were able to call on 3.5 players at extremely short notice to make it 9.5 v. 10. Commendations to Dayalan, Mikado, half of Beebee and a friend of Bill Denselow for fore-going stats and fantasy points and changing sides.

It was decided that Waltham St. L would have first use of a medium paced shirt front that took some spin - (Who won the toss Shinko ?). Kaka and Fakka opened the bowling. Kaka was bowling straight enough, but a little short. Things went well for Fakka. Everything was about there except he couldn't bowl his slower one straight enough. When Fakka bowled a WSL opener he went one ahead of Shakka in the list of OL wicket takers. WSL were scoring slowly and were 15-2 after 8 overs when Mikado came to the wicket. He looked the pick of their batsman, until Kakka and Catta easily combined to run him out for 8. It was really the fault of WSL's Captain Connor who never called once according to Mik. Don't know if there was lecture later.

Wickets continued to fall at very regular intervals. The highlight of the innings was seeing Tomas roll back the years and swing the ball like he hadn't done since the fifth form. It was too much for Doraisamy who spooned one to Catta at mid-on for Catta's 100th "normal" OLCC catch. Wako chipped in with a couple of wickets, and proceedings were brought to a close when Jõn dropped two, parried one, caught one. OLs were set 70 to win.

Shinko and Bilberto Bil opened the innings. Shinko was soon bowled round his legs by the young WLS leg-spinner. This bought Shinkinho to the wicket. His 6,000 mile round trip earned him 1 ball and a catch for Dorisaimay. In came Fred. Bil and Fred had a look for a couple of overs before they started elegantly carving the ball to all parts and it was all over within 13 overs. Beebee had done a spot of fielding and received the TFC award, but the early finish meant at least he could get home in time to see the 2nd half of Brazil v. Australia,
