05/09/06:   Sherborne Match

The OLs beat Sherborne by 5 Wickets.
Sherborne 160 for 7 dec.(R.Price 4 for 60)
OLCC 161 for 3 (T.Carter 79*)

Sherborne batted first on their traditional slowish pitch. Difficult to score quickly and difficult to take wickets. All our seamers - Ted, Phil, Dave, Geoff, Tom - had no luck ; regularly beating the bat and only occasionally getting whacked. For a bit of variation, Tom Carter pinned one on the Sherborne captain's hip with his regulation beamer. In the meantime Sherborne's 1st wicket eventually fell when one of their openers went for a suicidal second run. The ball from Dave Burton was rolling along the ground and half way to Charles Allan. The batsman then went for the run claiming the ball was hidden behind Richard Price - easy to imagine. Price then bowled the Sherborne no.3 3rd ball with a faster yorker. Wickets then fell at regular intervals with Sherborne never quite scoring quickly enough, despite the efforts of their classy left handed captain, Mr.Nurton. He gave Ted Carter his only wicket when he cracked a bullet to the extra cover boundary, where Phil Samuels took a good catch.

The OLs had a target of 160 that needed to be reached in about 30 overs. Moss and Ted Carter started steadily until Ted went for a big shot that he skied to extra cover. Andrew was then beaten in the flight by a slow yorker. Now Tom Carter got going, and with controlled aggression on a tricky pitch, guided the OLs to victory with 79 out of 161.

05/09/06:   Uplyme and Lyme Regis Match We turned up at the ground, but the home side left a note on the pavillion door saying they couldn't raise a team. Jenny and Katie Allan officiated an impromptu game of rounders. Tomster didn't win the 50 yard sprint. He failed to find the faster ground.

05/09/06:   Ditcheat Match

Ditcheat Beat OLCC by 5 wickets.
OLCC 162 (C.Allan 39, A.Moss 31, E.Carter 29)
Ditcheat 163 for 5 (E. Carter 3 for 24)

We started well but 3 comedy run-outs slowed things down and we were, according to Captain Chalmers, 40 runs short of par. Ditcheat cruised to victory with 5 wickets and 5 overs to spare. Swampy got a 50. We still wait for our first win at Ditcheat.

14/08/06:
  Longparish Match

The OLs lost to Longparish by 4 Wickets. OLCC 209 for 6 dec.(E.Carter 72, J.Acland-Hood 50), Longparish 212 for 6. (D.Burton 3 for, E.Carter 2 for)

Longparish won the toss and asked us to bat. [I would have put them in too]. We started steadily. Dave Bibby was given a couple of lives and then unleashed a few of his trademark pull shots. In the end he skied one and was caught. Ed Carter joined Dilly. The two put on another 30 or so before Dilly was bowled by a youngster's first ball. In came John Crosfield who after some personal Cyber-Confusion managed to get to the ground in time to bat at No.4. He touched his 1st ball round the corner and was caught behind for a golden duck. John Acland-Hood almost completed the youngster's hat-trick off his 1st 3 balls, but he did survive. Ed and John then steadied things and then accelarated to a well contstructed century partnership. John was driving well through the off-side and Ed ended with a flourish of straight sixes. Ross and Tom Gillmor hit a few timely blows to take us to 209, which seemed a decent enough score.

Dave Burton had a dream opening spell. Moving the ball away on a full length, he induced a nick that Dayalan took neatly at 2nd slip and then John A-H took a neat catch in the gulley. When the Longparish no.4 skied one behind to Tom Gillmor, Longparish were 13 for 3 and the OLs main consideration was trying to keep Longparish in the game. However, their left hander just kept swinging away and connecting. He rode his luck but was hitting the ball very cleanly, and it seemed we could do little to quell the flow of runs. Ed Carter came on and bowled a very good spell, taking 2 wickets that just about kept us in the game. Runs were still leaking badly from the other end, and a few moments of hapless fielding hurried the game to a conclusion 12 overs early.

09/08/06:   Brewers Cup Semi-Final

The OLs lost to Denstone by 35 runs. Denstone 288 for 7. OLs 253 all out.
In spite of the loss there were encouraging all-round performances from Ed Hunter (making his OL debut) and Will Denselow. Ed bowled a great spell against the Denstone top 4, with figures of 2 for 32 from his pacy and accurate 10 overs. Out from behind the stumps Will Denselow bowled 7 overs of controlled left arm leg spin, taking 2 wickets along the way. Later on he made 27 and Ed Hunter made 49. We clapped his 50 when a muffled announcement from the score box that we had made 250 was somehow translated as Ed's 50 which he kindly acknowledged, before being run out for 49 ! Oh, and Ackers scored another 50....

Earlier in the day the OLs were reduced to 25 for 3 before Richard Price (84) and Jon Shingles (68) put on 158 together to help take the OLs to 256-7. Tom Scrase took 4 for 78 to take the OLs to the brink of victory. His 4fer included a ripping leg break that the Incogs' best batsman gloved to Gillmor behind the stumps.
