Tom Carter won the toss and OLCC batted first on a slow seaming pitch with low bounce.
Graham Carter was soon out, bowled for 0 by one that seamed back in to him. Charlie hit a few blows before he too was bowled by a good one. Tom Carter and Andrew Moss then looked to shore things up, but were finding it hard to get the ball away on a strange wicket. After they'd put on
51 together Tom was bowled by a good inswinger. Andrew followed him back 3 runs later, and at 74 for 4 things were looking a bit dicey.
Richard Price and Tom Scrase Snr. now had a job to do, and went about it in their characteristically prosaic manner. The score accelerated gradually and the OLCC score started to look respectable. The partnership had reached 116 when Tom was bowled, as was Kristian 1 ball later. Tom Jnr. managed to prevent a family hat-trick and tea was soon taken with the innings closed on 191-6.
Phil Samuels and Tom Scrase Jnr. put in good opening spells. Phil was swinging it nicely and Tom, using his height and pushing it through was the first bowler of the day to extract any real bounce from the crabby pitch. Phil got one of the openers after a second good LBW shout. Richard Price took a catch at 1st slip ! off Tom's bowling to quickly get rid of their no.3 . The OLs didn't have to rue a messed up regulation run-out (project managed by Mickey Moss), because Tom Jnr. soon afterwards got rid of the big left hander with a very good yorker.
Holyport's two best batsmen were now at the wicket. Nick Hayles began his debut spell for the club. Bowling off-spin, he kept things under control and then had Pyle LBW for 26. Meanwhile Imran Butt was lookin ominously good, and but for a sharp return catch that Tom Snr. couldn't quite hang on to, his progress was serene.
Tom Carter brought himself on. He bowled straight and full, and bowled out 3. But Holyport were always up with the required rate. Towards the end Tom C brought on Richard Price to try and control things probably ! but it was not to be, as his weary bowling only brought things to a close 3 overs early and denied Tom his chance of a 4fer.
