CITY GENT VICE-PRESIDENT

21/11/01: Robert Stein has been made a Life Vice-president of the Old Leightonians Cricket Club.

At the 25th Year Celebration Dinner at Wokefield Park on November 17 'Arthur' was presented with a certificate commemorating his rich contributions to the OLCC since appearing in the club's first ever game against Leighton Park School in 1977.

It is first time ever in the history of the club that a Life Vice-president has been appointed.

Robert said later: "I wanted to tell you all how honoured I was to receive the prestigious title of Life Vice President.

"I must say that had I not adhered to the pre-dinner instructions of not reading the statistics, I would have realised immediately the honour that I was going to receive later that evening.

"I have enjoyed the informality and joviality at the Club over the last 25 years and to receive a title that gives me a life association with the OLCC makes me feel very proud.

"Unfortunately my business commitments seem to get greater as the years go on and this is the one great area that holds back greater participation in the club's affairs.

"I am however still secretary of the Brewers' Cup and it is my great hope that one day we might be able to make greater progress in the competition than normal. Once again a big thank you to all of you for this new title."
