26TH SEASON BEGINS IN DEFEAT
05/05/02: The OLCC began their 26th season in disappointing fashion with a five-wicket defeat at Woodhouse Eaves.
Tom Gillmor had boosted the OLCC innings with a superb knock of 68 from 46 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes, sharing a partnership of 98 with guest player Phil Stanhope (43). Phil Samuels then added a rapid 35 to help the tourists to a useful total of 183 all out.
Some miserly bowling from Julian Shackel and Samuels ensured Woodhouse Eaves made a slow start with two wickets going down early. Shackel then appeared to have taken a third, but he controversially withdrew his appeal having seen the batsman given out lbw.
The home side took full advantage and eventually sealed a five-wicket win with 4.1 overs to spare.
