UNBEATEN RUN CONTINUES
15/07/02: The OLCC extended their unbeaten run to four matches but were unable to see off Incogniti at Leighton Park.
After three successive victories, hopes were high of a fourth win to round off Cricket Week but the Incogs' defiance earned them a draw.
The visitors ended up on 110 for six at stumps, still some 92 runs short of the the OLCC's 202 for eight declared.
The game was half an hour late in getting underway at 12pm, but David Pollard and Tom Scrase got the OLCC off to a good start with a dogged partnership of 50 that ended when the latter was caught in the covers.
James Berridge was then on the receiving end of a 'going-over' by turncoat Julian Shackel before departing soon after, but Pollard continued smoothly to a fine half-century.
However the OLCC's progress was checked by some tight bowling, with Paul Newell Price and Andrew Moss forced to squeeze every run they could to keep the scoreboard moving.
But the innings was given fresh impetus late on when the 'Ware Warrior' Mike Thomas fired a rapid 30 that included a flurry of boundaries, and skipper Moss was able to declare on 202 at 4.10pm.
Brothers Paul and Richard Newell Price opened up the bowling for the Incogniti reply and immediately applied the pressure with a number of deliveries passing the outside edge.
The visitors thus reached tea at 40 for two but
failed to push on after the interval and a competitive game ended in a predictable
draw, but not before senior pro Moss had brought himself on for three-over
spell and taken his 50th wicket for the club.
