OLs DENIED IN THE GLOOM

17/09/02: A solitary wicket was all that separated the OLCC from a season-ending victory in a thriller at Roehampton.

The OLCC were invited to bat first and with contributions all the way down the order the visitors totalled 205-8 declared, Tom Gillmor top-scoring with a trademark rapid 39.

President Graham Carter was in a feverish state of statistical excitement as the hosts then collapsed to 37 for five, but a magnificent century by Kenny swung the balance firmly back towards Roehampton.

But he was finally fell to a well-judged catch by Jonny Shingles, having made 116 out of the 159 runs on the board.

The OLs then pushed for victory but were unable to take the crucial last wicket as the hosts held on to reach 177 for nine.

James Craig topped the bowling figures with three for 45, while Geoff Samuels' brace meant he finished the season with 19 wickets.
