TASTY QUORN DINNER
24/11/02: The 2002 OLCC Annual Dinner held at Quorn Grange, Leicestershire, proved to be a roaring success.
A total of 29 people attended the event - 16 members and 13 guests - which was called to order by organiser and chairman Julian Shackel at 8.30pm.
A brief period of silence was observed, in which guests were asked to remember Leighton Park art teacher Paul Dowdell, who sadly died earlier in the month.
The assembled party were then treated to an excellent repast, which featured a choice of prawn salad, melon or soup as a starter, main courses of either roast beef, chicken or broccoli and brie pithivier, with bread & butter pudding, fruit salad and cheese & biscuits the options for desert.
The speaker was a familiar face to all, being OLCC President Graham Carter, who entertained the members and guests with tales of OLCC exploits down the years (complete with suitable props) for approximately 46 minutes.
Chris 'Jack' Straw then presented Honorary member Edward Carter with the winner's cheque following his victory in the 2002 Predictions League.
Julian Shackel then produced a square foot of Lord's turf , which he then used to bowl at brother Nick, before thanking those who attended the dinner, most of whom then recongregated in the bar for the rest of the evening.
