BAD DAY AT THE OFFICE

05/05/03: Hopes of a third consecutive win at Elvaston were blown away as the OLCC slipped to a three-wicket defeat.

The day had begun well as sunny yet windy weather accompanied skipper Jon Shingles to the middle, where he "did the right thing" by winning the toss and batting.

John Acland-Hood (61) and Andrew Moss (21) immediately capitalised with a stand of 91 in 22 overs, setting up the foundation for a decent score.

However a clutch of wickets followed as the OLCC slipped to 140-5 before David Bibby (14) and Tom Gillmor (25) raised the run rate and ensured the tourists reached a total of 199-7 from their 40-over allocation.

Elvaston's innings began in a flurry of runs and wickets, so much that by the end of the 11th over the home side were 61-5, with Julian Shackel claiming three wickets and the expensive Phil Samuels two.

But the OLCC found penetration harder to achieve further down the order and although Shackel returned to claim a fourth scalp with his spin bowling, an unbeaten 107 from Mills saw Elvaston home with 6.5 overs and three wickets to spare.
