BAD WEATHER FOR GIRAFFES
07/07/04: Paul Newell Price was denied a fifth century for the OLCC as rain put paid to the Cricket Week game against Kingsclere.
Newell Price's unbeaten 98 and Honorary member Ed Carter's 64 not out had rescued the OLs from the perilous position of 66 for five, with Dominic Beer (0), Tom Gillmor (7), skipper John Acland-Hood (2), Andrew Moss (14) and Richard Newell Price (11) the men out.
The pair added an unbroken 155 for the sixth wicket, just one run shy of the club's record sixth-wicket stand (held by John Acland-Hood and Nick Torry), to guide the home side to 221 for five, at which point the heavens opened and scuppered Newell Price's hopes of a century and ultimately the rest of the game.
It was decided that the Good Doctor's Award, a trophy that had been donated by Kingsclere CC in memory of David Pollard, should be played for in the return game at Kingsclere on July 25. Both teams had earlier observed a minute's silence for David at the start of the match.
