RAISE A GLASS

For he's a Jolly good Farmer26/02/05: This Sunday, 27 February, marks an important date in the Old Leightonians Cricket Club calendar. OLCC President Graham Carter reports.

The Old Leightonians Cricket Club was founded in this hostelry (pictured left, click to enlarge) 28 years ago this weekend on Sunday 27th February 1977 and one of the two founding members returned especially this week to bring our members a reminder of the club's history.

The picture shows The Jolly Farmer at Puttenham, near Guildford, Surrey, now sadly called The Harvester (lower deck), where the first Winter Meeting, attended only by the two founders, took place and the club was born.

It is hoped that members who read this will raise their glasses (not their bottles or cans) this Sunday 27 February 2005 and drink to the club at at 1 p.m. to mark the completion of 28 successful years - it also being a Sunday on the 27th.
