TED LORDS IT AT HOLYPORT
04/07/05: Honorary member Ed Carter's half-century and three wickets helped the OLCC to a 24-run win at Holyport.
Opting to bat first, the visitors made a good start through Tom Scrase (17) and Tom Gillmor (30), and when both departed in successive overs it was Carter, together with John Crosfield, who picked up the baton.
The pair added 75 for the third wicket, Crosfield making a gutsy 35, before Carter and John Acland-Hood (21) put on a further 41 runs.
A classic OL collapse then ensued as six wickets fell for 19 before the innings came to a close on 188 for nine off 40 overs.
Finding the conditions to his liking, Geoff Samuels then swung out both Holyport openers with 26 on the board, the latter being the 50th opposition batsman he has bowled out for the OLCC.
After the hosts fought back with a stand of 41, Samuels then repeated the trick to claim his third and Jon Shingles immediately followed up with a double wicket maiden to leave Holyport's innings in trouble at 67 for five.
Tom Scrase was then brought into the attack, his leg-spin earning him two wickets to reduce the hosts to 99 for seven and leave the OLs hot favourites for victory.
But No 8 batsman Davies unleashed a welter of lusty blows to scatter the field, and at 155 for seven with four overs to go the match was firmly in the balance.
However Carter had other ideas and took a superb diving return catch to account for Richards before his esteemed parent Graham Carter held a fabulous steepling catch at long-off to remove danger man Davies (56).
Appropriately Carter then bowled Stott to dismiss the hosts for 164 and wrap up the match.
