Edward Sugden, or 'Suggs' as he is better known to an Old Leightonian, has been
entertaining the OLCC with his no nonsense batting style since his debut in
2003. To say he is not particularly recognised for his defensive strokes when
at the crease would be somewhat of an understatement, as Suggers has displayed
some of the most aggressive batting I have seen from an OL batsman. He would
be in agreeance that if a ball is worth hitting, it's worth smacking as hard
as possible in an attempt to hit the boundary, hence gaining the secondary nickname
'Rocket Launcher'.
And he's not too shabby with the ball either, which I for one would relish seeing
more of, as his bowling with good pace at a good line and length can be a constant
trouble to opposition batsmen. His finest moment with the ball would be claiming
the wicket of seasoned veteran batsman Andrew 'Mickey' Moss in the Presidents'
XI fixture in 2005.
On the social side Suggs has shown that what may seem on the exterior as a harmless
young lad can break out into complete anarchy. A hardened fanatic of Reading
FC, Ed is a guy who is fond of the odd pint or 5, a habit that I have seen grow
over the many years which I have known him. A true character for the OLCC -
his contribution to the group cannot be underestimated. PMHS
