They say there is no substitute for quality, and that Richard has taken more wickets for the OLCC than anyone else ever is testament both to his bowling ability and his continued support for the club.
Richard is a dedicated cricketer who has made his way to the top of those wicket-taking charts with some accurate slow/slow-medium/medium/medium-fast bowling, overhauling a certain Julian Shackel [only cos Shack is knackered - Ed.] in the past couple of seasons and picking up no fewer than five 6-wicket hauls in the process.
Aside from his bowling - which is varied depending on the opposition batsman's style but is always probing - Richard is also a resolute batsman who usually plays down his ability with willow in hand [normally someone elses willow - Ed.] . He sells his wicket dearly and has recently given his average a substantial increase with a number of half-centuries, all puncutated by his trademark punching shots through the off-side with plenty of bottom hand.
Passionate about the game, Richard has of late been on a mission to stamp out what he perceives as a tendency towards laziness in umpires; obviously feeling that they do not do enough to earn their match fees, he has been known to occasionally provide them with the opportunity to practise their wicket-repairing skills. Umpires do not appear grateful when given this chance, which shows how little they know about cricket. CCS
