Q: Will the OLCC beat the Old Aldenhamians in the Brewers Cup?

OLCC members are confident the club will march to glory in the first round of this season's Brewers Cup, according to our latest exclusive online poll.

The controversial decision by website administrators to remove existing vote-blocking procedures was thoroughly vindicated as the club's Cup team were given a clear vote of confidence in a large turn-out.

63% of the electorate believed a second round place could be secured when the team travel to Aldenham School on Sunday 29 June.

Team selector Tom Gillmor could barely contain his delight at being asked his opinion by OLCC website reporters in an exclusive interview that never actually took place.

"It's good to know the vast majority of members are behind us," he said. "Some tough decisions had to be made during the selection process but it is clear that our choices have already been approved.

"There's a good spirit in the camp and if we can keep drumming it into each other that we can win this, there's no reason to believe we can't do it."

On the question of his own form going into the big Cup tie, Gillmor added: "I don't think I've found my rhythm quite yet this season but I'm confident some of the extra physical and mental preparation I've been doing will pay off.

"Most people don't realise how a good horse-riding session can do wonders for your stamina and that something as straightforward as a regular intake of chocolate can help you keep going that much longer when you've dug yourself in at the crease."

Gillmor's fellow selectors Jonny Shingles and Paul Newell Price were not approached for comment, but both were said to be "satisfied" with the result but somewhat "disappointed" not to have secured a two-thirds share of the vote.
